Morpheme Examples Morpheme A morpheme is a meaningful unit of language that cannot be further divided. Morphemes can be words and affixes-prefixes and suffixes. Examples of Morpheme: -ed = turns a verb into the past tense un- = prefix that means not a = article I = pronoun walk = verb (notice the word cannot be further divided) Morphemes in a Sentence The child was unable to move the largest of the boxes. The = article child = noun was = verb un = prefix meaning not able = verb to = part of the infinitive "to move" move = verb acting as infinitive the = article larg(e) = adjective est = suffix of = preposition the = article box = noun -es = turns the noun into the plural
